How to choose trigger sensors

Through-beam

Sender and receiver face each other; the longest range and the most reliable detection, for opaque parts.

Retro-reflective

One housing and a reflector across the line; easy to mount, good for most opaque parts.

Diffuse-reflective

Detects the light the part itself reflects; one housing, no reflector, short range.

NPN or PNP?

Match the input of the camera or controller you wire it to. PNP (sourcing) is common in North America and Europe, NPN (sinking) in Asia.
