Size a diffused linear illumination layout

A bar light provides a linear source that can be positioned around the inspection. Diffusion is one way to change the highlights and shadows produced by that source. Use the actual emitting dimensions and intended distance when planning one bar or a multi-light arrangement.

  • Compare emitting length and width with the region of interest. Check whether a printed dimension describes the illuminated area or only the outside housing.
  • Allow adjustment of position and angle to evaluate the complete field. A bar length alone does not establish a uniform illuminated area at every distance.
  • Check the model supply, power, connector and control mode, and size the controller for the actual number of lights and their combined electrical load.
