Keyboard contact mats: reveal repeated contact features under a blue bar

The source blue-bar image shows a matrix of bright contact locations on a dark keyboard-related mat. It supports a trial for repeatable contact-feature appearance without claiming that visible contacts are electrically functional.

Use the visible contact pattern to test orientation; verify switch function independently.

The challenge

Repeated contact features can be confused with glare, holes or nearby traces.

Correct presence and orientation rules depend on the actual mat design and its acceptable variation.

How it was solved

The source describes keyboard-related front/back inspection and identifies the blue diffused bar. Only one capture is supplied for this study; it is not a matched front/back comparison.

Use known mat orientations to test which visible contact features support localization or appearance checks. The proposed camera and fixture are supporting parts, not identified source equipment.

Why it works

  1. 1

The blue-light example gives strong local contrast at repeated circular features while much of the mat remains darker.

  2. 2

Visible contact geometry cannot prove contact resistance, key travel or switch actuation.

Evidence you can inspect

Visible in the images

A grid of bright circular features and surrounding mat detail is visible.

What the source reports

The source labels the example computer-key-mat front/back inspection under a blue diffused bar.

How to use this evidence

One source capture, without labelled orientation classes, electrical results, detection rates or a stated minimum feature size.

From image contrast to a production decision

What to validate on your part

  1. 01

    Label the actual orientations

Capture verified front and back states for each mat design.

  2. 02

    Include acceptable mat variation

Test mould texture, contact finish, handling marks and normal positional variation.

  3. 03

    Keep electrical testing separate

Validate any appearance decision independently of switch function or contact-resistance requirements.

Parts in this setup

Build this system

"Tested" identifies the part named in the source. "Our pick" is a proposed alternative or supporting part. Confirm colour, optics, controllers, power supplies, cables and mounting before ordering.

The set-up

Tested lightLS-2BD23738-RGBW, blue
Source camera / lensNot specified in the source image caption; proposed parts below
Proposed lens point0.1x at 152 mm, printed lens pair
Derived proposed field84.456 × 70.656 mm = sensor dimensions / 0.1x; not a source test field
Bar housing (printed)237 × 38 × 27 mm
Mounting (proposed)LS-BT-XZ-G-6-6045; 600 mm column, 600 × 450 mm base, glass tray and two included lighting holders

Mount the optics with intent

The station is an optical test bench, with its two lighting holders included in the catalog listing. The 3D column and base follow the published height and footprint. Carriages, clamps and part supports are schematic: confirm camera screw pattern, lens support, light fasteners, permissible load and actual travel before ordering.

Complete the electrical system

Select a controller against the exact light voltage, drive mode and power, then confirm camera data/power/I/O cables and a suitable PC. These are not silently added to the proposed optical kit.

Camera and available lens CAD are published models. Lens and light envelopes use printed dimensions. The linked station uses its published base size and column height; carriage, brackets, fittings, parts and spacing are illustrative. Confirm load, travel, fasteners and clearances before ordering. Light paths explain the arrangement and do not simulate optical performance. Representative part geometry is illustrative, not reconstructed inspection evidence. The specimen and lighting angle are representative, not dimensions or settings recovered from the source capture.
