Fuse terminals: make both reflective end faces available to the camera

The real dome-lit capture shows two bright terminal end faces against a darker support. Diffuse illumination provides a useful starting point for comparing their visible features without implying electrical contact quality.

Use diffuse light for terminal appearance and test electrical performance separately.

The challenge

Terminal faces can reflect unevenly, so one face may appear much darker without being absent.

Visible geometry and surface appearance must be separated from contact resistance or current-carrying performance.

How it was solved

The source identifies the white dome for automotive-fuse pin inspection. It shows two terminal faces but does not define accepted or rejected terminal states.

Test the proposed camera and narrower macro view with verified assembly samples. The 3D terminal specimen is representative; the source does not provide pin pitch or dimensions.

Why it works

  1. 1

A dome brings diffuse illumination from multiple directions to try on reflective terminal features.

  2. 2

A consistent image can support appearance checks, but it does not measure an electrical connection.

Evidence you can inspect

Visible in the images

Two bright terminal end faces with smaller face features are visible.

What the source reports

The catalog captions automotive-fuse pin inspection using a white LS-DS175.

How to use this evidence

No pin dimensions, correct/incorrect labels, contact-resistance test, rating or detection result is supplied.

From image contrast to a production decision

What to validate on your part

  1. 01

    Define visible reject conditions

Include verified missing, displaced or visibly damaged terminal samples relevant to the actual design.

  2. 02

    Cover surface variation

Test accepted plating, finish and part-tilt changes on both terminals.

  3. 03

    Keep electrical acceptance separate

Validate visual decisions independently of required contact-resistance or fuse-function tests.

Parts in this setup

Build this system

"Tested" identifies the part named in the source. "Our pick" is a proposed alternative or supporting part. Confirm colour, optics, controllers, power supplies, cables and mounting before ordering.

The set-up

Tested lightLS-DS175, white
Source camera / lensNot specified in the source image caption; proposed parts below
Proposed lens point0.25x at 150 mm, printed lens pair
Derived proposed field33.7824 × 28.2624 mm = sensor dimensions / 0.25x; not a source test field
Dome envelope (printed)175 mm OD × 35 mm camera opening × 83.7 mm high
Source terminal dimensionsNot supplied
Mounting (proposed)LS-BT-XZ-G-6-6045; 600 mm column, 600 × 450 mm base, glass tray and two included lighting holders

Mount the optics with intent

The station is an optical test bench, with its two lighting holders included in the catalog listing. The 3D column and base follow the published height and footprint. Carriages, clamps and part supports are schematic: confirm camera screw pattern, lens support, light fasteners, permissible load and actual travel before ordering.

Complete the electrical system

Select a controller against the exact light voltage, drive mode and power, then confirm camera data/power/I/O cables and a suitable PC. These are not silently added to the proposed optical kit.

Camera and available lens CAD are published models. Lens and light envelopes use printed dimensions. The linked station uses its published base size and column height; carriage, brackets, fittings, parts and spacing are illustrative. Confirm load, travel, fasteners and clearances before ordering. Light paths explain the arrangement and do not simulate optical performance. Representative part geometry is illustrative, not reconstructed inspection evidence. The specimen and lighting angle are representative, not dimensions or settings recovered from the source capture.
