Match the measurement field to the sensor

For a fixed-magnification telecentric lens, the object field is set by the active sensor size and magnification. The format rating describes coverage; it does not by itself specify the measurement field. Start with the part envelope, smallest feature and available mounting distance.

  • Confirm that the camera uses the decimal 1.2-inch format, not the fractional 1/2-inch format, and check its actual active dimensions against the lens coverage.
  • Choose magnification from the required object field and sensor dimensions. Check the model-specific working distance, depth of field and mounting drawing.
  • Evaluate distortion, telecentricity and resolution for the measurement task, and reserve room for the illumination geometry rather than selecting by format alone.
