Mobile glass edges: use a bright field to separate the contour

The manufacturer's test image shows the corner of a mobile-device cover with a clear outer contour. It demonstrates edge visibility under right-angle coaxial lighting; a proposed straight-view coaxial kit offers a separate bench starting point.

Choose the viewing geometry around a clearly defined edge datum.

Mobile cover-glass contour under coaxial light

Camera and available lens CAD are published models. Lens and light envelopes use printed dimensions. The linked station uses its published base size and column height; carriage, brackets, fittings, parts and spacing are illustrative. Confirm load, travel, fasteners and clearances before ordering. Light paths explain the arrangement and do not simulate optical performance. The part geometry is illustrative and is not reconstructed from the camera image. The proposed field is derived from the printed lens magnification and camera pixel dimensions; actual coverage and focus need a bench check. Representative part geometry is illustrative, not reconstructed inspection evidence.

The challenge

A thin transparent cover and its black border can reveal several overlapping edges. Reflections and the support beneath the glass compete with the contour of interest.

How it was solved

The source uses white LS-CXL-0044, a right-angle coaxial light with its camera looking from the side. The proposed LS-CXL-0025 is a straight-view alternative; its arrangement has not been tested in the source.

The 3D scene shows only the proposed straight-view geometry. Confirm clearance and edge contrast on the real cover before choosing between the arrangements.

Why it works

  1. 1

A controlled coaxial field can separate the border and outer edge from the surrounding region.

  2. 2

A clear corner image is not a full-cover measurement or a chipped-edge detection benchmark. The exact datum and acceptance rule still need validation.

Lighting manufacturer's test sheet

Evidence you can inspect

Visible in the images

The cropped source capture retains a clearly visible curved cover edge.

What the source reports

The sheet reports contour visibility under right-angle coaxial illumination; no full-part tolerance or chipped-edge detection limit is given.

How to use this evidence

A lighting manufacturer's application demonstration. The source supplies no customer deployment, defect-size limit, repeatability study or production false-call data. Proposed camera, lens, field, mounting and spacing are not the system the manufacturer tested.

What to validate on your part

  1. 01

    Identify each boundary

Document whether the outside glass edge, coating border or fixture edge is the target datum.

  2. 02

    Compare the proposed geometry

Trial straight-view and right-angle arrangements with the same representative covers and fixed exposure.

  3. 03

    Challenge edge variation

Include known chips, acceptable bevels, border-print variation and repeated fixture loading.

Mount the optics with intent

The station is an optical test bench, with its two lighting holders included in the catalog listing. The 3D column and base follow the published height and footprint. Carriages, clamps and part supports are schematic: confirm camera screw pattern, lens support, light fasteners, permissible load and actual travel before ordering.

Complete the electrical system

Select a controller against the exact light voltage, drive mode and power, then confirm camera data/power/I/O cables and a suitable PC. These are not silently added to the proposed optical kit.
