Processor sockets: locate the socket and its contact fields under white shadowless ring lights
Two source colour images show processor sockets on circuit boards under white shadowless ring lights. Each socket has two large fields of fine contacts divided by a centre channel, with a frame and lever round them; the second board is blue with small components in the centre.
Locate the socket from its frame and channel, not from the contact texture.

Camera and available lens CAD are published models. Lens and light envelopes use printed dimensions. The linked station uses its published base size and column height; carriage, brackets, fittings, parts and spacing are illustrative. Confirm load, travel, fasteners and clearances before ordering. Light paths explain the arrangement and do not simulate optical performance. Representative part geometry is illustrative, not reconstructed inspection evidence. The specimen and lighting distance are representative, not dimensions or settings recovered from the source capture.

Images from the manufacturer's application test, cropped; the original annotations are kept and nothing is generated or enhanced. Drag a comparison slider, or open any image full size.
The challenge
The contact fields are fine, repetitive textures that can look the same at every position, so location must come from larger features.
Metal frames, levers and contacts all reflect, and hard light gives bright glints that move with small tilts.
How it was solved
The source identifies white shadowless ring lights for CPU position inspection: one 166 mm and one 196 mm in overall diameter.
Image the socket with the proposed colour camera through the ring opening, locate it from the frame corners and the centre channel, and check the contact fields for gross damage. The source does not name its camera, lens or software.
Why it works
- 1
A large shadowless ring lights the board from all round, so the fields, channel and frame show evenly with few hard glints.
- 2
Locating from the frame and channel is more robust than the contact texture; the source gives no position accuracy.

Evidence you can inspect
Both sockets show two contact fields split by a centre channel; the second sits on a blue board with small components in the centre.
The source captions both examples as CPU position inspection and identifies the two white shadowless ring lights.
Two source colour captures of different sockets. No socket size, position accuracy or cycle time is supplied.

What to validate on your part
- 01
Define the datum
Choose frame corners or the centre channel as the position reference and confirm it on every socket type.
- 02
Measure repeatability
Image one board repeatedly at known offsets before setting a position tolerance.
- 03
Include board variation
Add boards with different solder-mask colours and populated components round the socket.

Mount the optics with intent
The station is an optical test bench, with its two lighting holders included in the catalog listing. The 3D column and base follow the published height and footprint. Carriages, clamps and part supports are schematic: confirm camera screw pattern, lens support, light fasteners, permissible load and actual travel before ordering.
Complete the electrical system
Select a controller against the exact light voltage, drive mode and power, then confirm camera data/power/I/O cables and a suitable PC. These are not silently added to the proposed optical kit.
