Check distortion at the intended field

M12 lenses are commonly described as S-mount lenses. For a compact board camera, mechanical clearance and focus adjustment matter alongside optical coverage. This selection requires the actual M12 mount facet as well as the low-distortion classification, rather than assuming every board lens uses the same interface.

  • Confirm the lens thread, camera lens holder, rear clearance and focus adjustment range from the drawings. The M12 name alone does not establish every mechanical detail.
  • Compare the published distortion definition and field of view at your working distance. A low-distortion classification does not mean zero distortion in every imaging condition.
  • Check the sensor format, resolution and aperture for the camera, and determine whether calibration is needed for the measurement or mapping task.
